The Torcher Parade

Every year through main streets of rather gloomy Aberdeen makes its way a colourful and joyful parade of funky dressed up students and members of local charities on floats – trucks with platforms  – where most of action happens. Every float has a different theme and is always new every year, so you can never see the same truck twice!

The Torcher Parade is currently the largest student torch-lit parade in Europe. It is a charity event with a long history, which originated with nurses collecting money for funding hospital wards! However with the awakening of Aberdeen Students’ Charities Campaign in1921 the event is now run by students, with Charities “Angus the Bull” mascot (and University of Aberdeen Rector on its back!) leading the trail.
